Trump Claims Credit for Iran Progress, Critics Compare to Arsonist

Date:

Donald Trump is attempting to claim credit for progress in resolving the conflict with Iran. This move has drawn comparisons to an arsonist who sets a building on fire and then allows a fire engine to park nearby, demanding recognition for heroism. The situation evolved quickly as Iran announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping during the Lebanon ceasefire. The outcome of negotiations between the US and Iran before the ceasefire concludes remains uncertain. Nevertheless, the temporary halt in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah signals potential advancements.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump excitedly informed his followers that Iran had reopened the Strait of Hormuz for shipping. Despite mistakenly referring to it as the “Strait of Iran,” he abandoned his previous attempts to label it the “Strait of Trump.” However, moments later, he clarified that the US would continue to enforce a naval blockade on Iran until a comprehensive agreement is reached. Iran pledged to keep the strait open during the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire, causing oil prices to initially drop. Trump, however, insists on stringent conditions for Iran regarding their nuclear program, demanding the removal of all nuclear material before lifting the blockade.

Amid his social media frenzy, Trump criticized NATO for offering assistance post the Strait’s reopening, bluntly rejecting their involvement unless they were interested in oil-related activities. In contrast, Britain and France announced plans for a peaceful mission to secure the Strait once conditions permit. Trump also took aim at media outlets like The New York Times and CNN for allegedly failing to acknowledge his role in the recent developments.

During an event in Las Vegas, Trump reiterated his claims about the state of the country under Biden but mistakenly referenced an outdated timeline. He also recalled a recent incident where he was portrayed as a doctor, which he found embarrassing. Additionally, he boasted about his tax cuts and expressed confusion over the term “corner store.”

Prior to these events, Trump kept attendees waiting for over an hour at a gathering in Vegas, where they even engaged in a singalong of the hymn “How Great Thou Art” to pass the time.
