Donald Trump has once again praised King Charles and assured that his strained relationship with PM Keir Starmer will not affect the upcoming US state visit by the monarch. The US president has criticized the Prime Minister for decisions related to North Sea drilling and immigration policies, hinting at possible changes to the UK-US trade deal.
Amid escalating tensions between the US and its allies, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a four-day trip to the US from April 27 to 30, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence. Trump, speaking after Buckingham Palace released details of the King’s itinerary, lauded Charles as a “great gentleman” and emphasized that his disagreements with Sir Keir will not overshadow the royal visit.
During the visit, the royal couple will partake in various events, including a traditional American Block Party in Virginia, where locals will gather to celebrate America’s milestone. The itinerary also includes formal meetings with President Trump and attending special ceremonies at the White House. King Charles is scheduled to address Congress, a rare honor for a British monarch, and pay respects at the 9/11 memorial in New York.
Following the US visit, Queen Camilla will return to the UK, while King Charles will travel to Bermuda from May 1 to 2. In Bermuda, the King will engage in activities aimed at deepening his understanding of the island’s history, including visiting a museum exhibition dedicated to Bermuda’s connection to the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Additionally, discussions with the UK Space Agency regarding space sustainability efforts are on the agenda.
The royal visit is expected to strengthen ties between the US and the UK, showcasing cultural exchanges and diplomatic engagements.
