Donald Trump’s perspective on King Charles has surfaced as preparations are made for His Majesty’s upcoming visit to the United States for a state occasion. Trump, known for his strong affinity for all things British, holds the distinction of being the first US President to have engaged in two official state visits to the UK, a fact he reportedly takes immense pride in. His ties to the UK are further strengthened by his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, who hails from Scotland’s Isle of Lewis, home to renowned golf courses owned by Trump.
Before the release of his book titled “Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story,” royal biographer Robert Hardman shared insights into Trump’s connection to King Charles, describing Trump as “half-British by descent.” Trump’s admiration for His Majesty is evident in his portrayal of him as a resilient individual, particularly highlighting his battle with cancer as a testament to his strength.
In a recent feature for The Mail, Robert quoted Trump praising King Charles as “fantastic” and lauding his perseverance, stating, “He has fought very hard. He’s a fighter. We’re close. I have a really good relationship with him. Let me just give you the bottom line. He’s a great guy and he’s grown so much in the last ten years and especially over the last couple of years as King. His fight has shown that.”
King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to visit the US at the end of April for a three-day state visit to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace. The visit will include various events aimed at celebrating the historical ties and current partnership between the two nations, with Charles set to address Congress and attend a state dinner at the White House.
Despite the positive arrangements for the trip, there have been calls for its cancellation due to the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel against Iran, which has seen significant military actions by the US. Additionally, certain members of the UK Government have reportedly expressed concerns over the trip proceeding, citing Trump’s criticisms of the Prime Minister and the UK’s response to the conflict.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond highlighted the significance of the palace’s statement, noting that it indicates the King’s compliance with the Government’s directives, particularly in utilizing the monarchy’s soft power to navigate the strained relations between the UK and the United States.
