Former Attorney General Pam Bondi has been relieved of her duties by Donald Trump. The announcement was made on Truth Social, where Trump praised Bondi as a dedicated public servant who significantly contributed to reducing crime rates in the country during her tenure. Bondi is set to transition to a new role in the private sector, with Todd Blanche, the Deputy Attorney General, stepping in as the Acting Attorney General.
Speculation about Bondi’s future came to a head in Washington DC as reports emerged of Trump informing her that her time leading the Justice Department was coming to an end. Despite her plea for more time in the position, Bondi has returned to Florida. Bondi’s oversight of the Epstein Files, a source of frustration for Trump given his numerous mentions in them, led to a loss of confidence in her after being summoned to provide testimony under oath by a congressional committee investigating Epstein’s crimes.
While being mentioned in the Epstein Files does not imply guilt, Trump’s name surfaced in FBI documents related to unverified accusations of child abuse. The White House dismissed these claims as unfounded and lacking credible evidence. Trump is reportedly considering appointing Lee Zeldin, the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency, as Bondi’s replacement. In the interim, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, known for his interview with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, will assume the role.
Zeldin, a former congressman and staunch supporter of Trump, is being considered for the position following his defense of Trump during the previous impeachment proceedings. The New York Times reported that Trump had not made a final decision on Bondi’s dismissal, and she recently accompanied him to the Supreme Court for a hearing on birthright citizenship. Trump commended Bondi for her work, describing her as a capable and admirable individual.
