Forecast maps reveal a substantial 500-mile-wide band of rain that will envelop extensive parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, and North Wales throughout much of Thursday. Additionally, the southern regions of England could encounter thunderstorms in the evening following a day of hot and humid weather.
Meteorologist Alex Burkill, speaking on the Met Office’s YouTube channel, mentioned the potential for thunderstorms in the southeast later on Thursday due to the influx of hot, humid air from the south, although the risk remains low at present.
Despite the anticipated heavy rainfall, overall precipitation levels are predicted to remain relatively low. While some areas might receive over 50 millimeters of rain, it is not considered a substantial amount. Many individuals might welcome the rainfall at this time of the year.
Weather maps illustrate the expansive rain band encompassing Ireland, Northern Ireland, and parts of West Scotland from 6 am on Thursday. By 10 am, most of Scotland and Northern Ireland will be under the rain band, extending to North West England with intense patches over Cumbria.
The rain is expected to persist throughout the day, moving eastward and covering the North East by 1 pm. At this stage, the rain band will stretch over 500 miles from North Wales to Northern Scotland. By 4 pm, Northern Ireland should clear from the rain, with the heaviest showers forecast over Cumbria, the Pennines, and parts of the North East.
