A wealthy banker who was previously detained in connection with the infamous “Putney Pusher” incident has been re-arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs. The attack involved a 33-year-old woman being pushed in front of a bus on Putney Bridge in May 2017 in south-west London.
The 44-year-old suspect was initially held at his £1.4 million residence in west London on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm after surveillance footage captured a jogger shoving the victim into the roadway.
Metropolitan Police authorities have confirmed the individual’s re-arrest but disclosed that he has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
According to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police, the suspect was taken into custody on June 15 for the alleged offense of attempted grievous bodily harm related to the 2017 incident on Putney Bridge. Subsequently, he was also apprehended on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B narcotics.
The suspect, reported to have a military background, was apprehended following the emergence of significant new details in recent months. Over 50 individuals have been interviewed in connection with the case, with three individuals previously arrested but subsequently released without charges.
The investigation concluded in 2018, following the release of CCTV footage taken from the bus involved in the incident, which was traveling at a speed of 12mph. The bus driver managed to avoid hitting the victim at the last moment, preventing a potentially disastrous outcome.
After the bus stopped, passengers rushed to assist the victim, who sustained minor injuries. The woman tried to approach the jogger around 15 minutes later as he ran back across the bridge, but he reportedly ignored her attempts to communicate.
