The Met Office website reports, “Starting from Wednesday, a significant drop in temperatures is expected nationwide, with rain, sleet, and hail showers likely to be widespread, along with snowfall on higher terrain in the north. While some regions may experience periods of sunshine, the wind chill will make it feel cold.”
The upcoming weather contrasts sharply with the conditions of the previous week, where temperatures in west Wales exceeded 20C. A large portion of the country enjoyed extended sunny spells, but low-pressure systems are forecasted to prevail until the month’s end.

By Saturday, isolated snow showers will persist in Scotland, Wales, Hampshire, and Berkshire. The Met Office’s Thursday forecast indicates, “Showers, potentially wintry, will continue overnight, mainly in the far north and across Wales, central, and later southern England. Clear intervals will develop, the strong northerly wind will ease, and frost with icy patches will form.”
For the period from Thursday to Sunday, the forecast includes, “Thursday will begin mostly clear with sunshine. Cloudiness will gradually increase, leading to wet and windy conditions in the north, while much of England and Wales will stay dry and sunny.”
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates warned, “Following a period of mild and sunny weather, the UK is set to experience increasingly turbulent conditions in the upcoming days. Several weather fronts will bring rain, strong winds, and notably colder air by midweek, with Wednesday potentially being quite abrupt.”
Temperatures are expected to range from 6°C to 10°C, but the wind will make it feel much colder. Wintry showers are probable, especially in northern elevated areas, and a widespread frost, with possible icy patches, could form on Wednesday night. Towards the week’s end, milder conditions are likely, with more rain expected on Friday.
