“UK Cities Brace for Snowstorm as Metdesk Forecasts Blizzard”

Date:

A wave of snow is expected to cover UK cities in the coming days, enveloping major metropolitan areas like London in snowdrifts. Metdesk weather forecasts indicate that a weather front will sweep across the UK from east to west in the following week, bringing blizzard conditions to various regions.

The weather system is projected to make landfall around noon on Thursday, January 29, affecting both northern and southern parts of the country. According to weather charts from WXCharts.com, a band of rain and snow will move eastward across the UK during the day, transitioning to predominantly snow by 6 pm, covering a 531-mile stretch from Exmoor to Kearvaig in Scotland.

Cities such as Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow are expected to experience heavy snowfall, with several centimeters per hour forecasted across Britain. By noon on Friday, January 30, the snow band is predicted to have passed, but localized blizzards are anticipated, particularly in London.

Maps show significant snow coverage over London, with snowfall rates of one to two centimeters per hour. The snow depth map for the same period indicates widespread snow cover across the UK, with ongoing snowfall in London. In southern regions like Southampton, snow accumulation of up to 2-3cm is expected, including areas around London, with higher snow depths in elevated areas and the north.

In the eastern Highlands of Scotland, the deepest snow accumulations are forecasted, with depths reaching up to 51cm (20 inches). The long-range forecast from the Met Office for January 21 to January 30 suggests an elevated likelihood of snow in various parts of the country due to a clash between Atlantic weather systems and high-pressure conditions from the east.

The forecast indicates that Atlantic air will prevail, leading to cloudy and changeable conditions with showers or rain in most regions. The west is expected to experience wetter weather compared to the drier conditions in the east. Temperature-wise, overall averages are predicted with the potential for night frosts in clear areas. Towards the end of the period, there is an increased possibility of colder weather setting in, heightening the chances of snowfall in parts of the country.
