A mother from the UK shared her distressing experience of being stuck in Dubai due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Salli-J Oliver, along with her partner Kevin Pell, and their children, Jaden and Reece, along with a friend, found themselves at JBR Beach in Dubai when sudden explosions reverberated through the sky.
Having always aspired to visit the UAE and even contemplating a potential move there, the family now finds themselves anxious to return home as tensions escalate in the Middle East. Despite their hopes for assistance, their travel provider, Loveholidays, has been unhelpful, and insurance coverage is denied due to the situation being classified as an ‘act of terrorism or war.’
With mounting concerns for their safety in a foreign land, especially after arriving shortly before the conflict escalated, Salli described the harrowing moments of being near bomb blasts and the subsequent chaos that ensued. The family faced a terrifying evacuation from their hotel when emergency sirens blared, leading to a distressing experience for all.
As they grapple with the uncertainty of the situation and the lack of clear options for leaving Dubai, they are eager to return to Britain. Salli expressed her frustration with how Loveholidays handled the crisis, calling it “absolutely shocking,” and recounted a dismissive response from a customer service agent amidst the turmoil.
The family’s ordeal in Dubai is just one among many, as the British government works on plans to evacuate over 100,000 British nationals from the Middle East. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted the significant number of UK citizens in the region, urging them to adhere to local authorities’ instructions and stay updated on travel advisories from the Foreign Office.
