Some regions in the UK are set to experience scorching highs of 35C today, as per the Met Office forecast. However, a cold front is looming on the horizon. The GFS weather model indicates a significant drop in temperatures next week, with anomaly maps showing deep blue hues across the UK, signaling temperatures falling well below the usual seasonal averages.
By midday on Tuesday, data suggests potential highs of only 16C in the south-east of England, around 14C in South Wales and the Midlands, 12C in Northern Ireland, and plummeting temperatures as low as 7C in parts of northern Scotland. Throughout the day, temperatures are not expected to rise much, with the warmest area being the far south-west at just 19C, while northern England may see lows of 9C.
Wednesday doesn’t promise much improvement, with temperatures as low as 6C in northern Scotland, 8C in northern England, 9C in Northern Ireland, and only 14C in the south-east of England by midday. The afternoon temperatures are not much better, dropping to 13C in the south-east and 11C in the Midlands. The GFS model indicates that 22 counties could experience daytime temperatures below 10C across the two days, mainly in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or northern England.
Looking ahead, the Met Office anticipates “changeable” conditions in the coming week, with the possibility of low-pressure systems affecting the UK in early August. This could bring spells of heavy rain and strong winds to some areas. Nevertheless, the weather agency suggests a potential return to more settled conditions towards the end of the first week of August.
