UK Man Fighting for Life in Thailand on 23rd Birthday

Date:

A man from the UK is in critical condition on his 23rd birthday following a motorbike crash in Thailand. Tiger Duggan, hailing from Milton Keynes, is currently on life support due to severe injuries sustained during the incident on February 1. Although it is his birthday today, his family is by his side at the hospital as he fights for recovery.

Following the accident, Tiger’s friend witnessed the intense efforts to resuscitate him for 16 minutes at the scene. Initially treated on Ko Pha Ngan island, he was later moved to the nearby Koh Samui, the second-largest island in Thailand.

The high expenses associated with relocating him to a hospital in Bangkok forced Tiger’s family to make difficult decisions amidst financial strain. Despite having travel insurance, they discovered that it does not cover his medical costs due to an unforeseen clause.

On February 5, the family received approval to transfer Tiger to a specialized neurosurgery hospital in Bangkok, after facing an initial bill of £6,000 for his stay in the Koh Samui ICU. The transfer, costing £20,000, was completed, and Tiger underwent a scan upon arrival to begin treatment on his injuries.

The neonatal community at Milton Keynes University Hospital has rallied around Tiger and his family during this challenging time. A GoFundMe campaign initiated to alleviate the financial burden has raised over £82,000 to date.

Colleagues of Lisa Duggan, a neonatal nurse and Tiger’s mother, expressed their support through the fundraiser, highlighting the immense challenges the family is facing concerning medical expenses abroad, travel costs, and the long recovery journey ahead.

Lisa conveyed her gratitude for the overwhelming support received, acknowledging the global community’s efforts in aiding Tiger through donations, messages, insurance assistance, and other forms of help.

In a message shared with supporters, Lisa and her husband Kieron expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of generosity, emphasizing the strength they draw from the love and encouragement surrounding them during this difficult period.

For those willing to assist Tiger’s family, donations can be made through the GoFundMe page.
