A man from the UK is recovering from serious injuries following a motorcycle accident while on vacation in a foreign country. Andrew Patterson, 29, sustained life-altering wounds in a tragic incident in Canggu, located on the southwest coast of Bali. Originally from Omagh, Northern Ireland, Patterson, a tree surgeon who has been residing in Australia since 2024, had traveled to Bali for a short trip with a friend from Friday to Sunday.
While riding separate rented motorcycles on Sunday evening, Patterson miscalculated a turn, causing him to be thrown over his bike’s handlebars and into a road sign, resulting in a broken neck and back along with severe facial injuries including fractures to his cheek, eye socket, and nose.
In addition to the facial lacerations requiring skin grafts, Patterson also suffered injuries to his left hand. His family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses and potentially facilitate his return to the UK. Patterson’s sister, Andrea Marsella, shared that the accident has been devastating for the family, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding his recovery and the mounting financial burdens associated with his treatment.
Despite the challenges ahead, Patterson’s family is grateful for his survival and the fact that he has not lost mobility despite the spinal fractures. They are rallying for support during this difficult period as they navigate the medical expenses and long road to recovery for their beloved relative.
