UK Man’s Father Goes Missing in Cambodia, Demands for Money Received

Date:

A man from the UK received a disturbing demand for money after his father went missing in Cambodia. Adam Mielcarek, 59, who was traveling as a digital nomad in Southeast Asia, suddenly ceased communication with his family and shut off his phone. His son, also named Adam, frantically sought help from authorities and social media groups to locate his father when he received distressing photos of his father in a street. Adam Sr, a Polish national with a UK-registered company, was last known to be in Kampot before mentioning a move to Phnom Penh.

Despite his father’s silence, Adam Jr managed to track his father’s iPhone location before it went offline. After notifying authorities in Cambodia, the UK, and Poland without success, he eventually enlisted the help of a private investigator based in Southeast Asia. Two weeks later, a Chinese individual visited the Polish consulate in Cambodia claiming knowledge of the missing man’s whereabouts.

The man shared images of the emaciated father but refused to disclose information until a cash payment was made. Despite offering a reward, the Chinese individual insisted on immediate payment before revealing any details. Suspecting a scam, Adam Jr arranged for a private investigator from Crest Hawk to verify the situation. The investigator located the father through the images but did not physically find him.

On February 5, a local woman named Pich discovered the father living on the streets and helped reunite him with his son through the PI firm. Following medical treatment, arrangements were made for their return to Europe via an emergency travel document. The father, who had experienced mental health issues, was physically recovered but required further care in Europe.

Adam Jr set up a GoFundMe page to cover expenses incurred during the incident and subsequent repatriation. Plans for mental health support and transitioning away from business responsibilities were also discussed. If you wish to contribute to the fundraiser, the donation page can be accessed here. Emotional support services are available through the Samaritans helpline, email, or website.
