A woman discovered her boyfriend was a convicted sex offender during a trip to Turkey. Daniel Greaves, 34, of Grimsby, concealed his past convictions for engaging in sexual communication with a child from his partner. He had been sentenced to a community order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register in December 2024 for the said offenses. Additionally, he was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibited unsupervised contact with minors.
Greaves confessed to breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order twice in early 2025. According to the prosecution at Grimsby Crown Court, in January, Greaves and his girlfriend took two children to a local pub, and in February, he was left alone with the children at a circus while his girlfriend was away. The woman only became aware of his criminal history at a border control in Turkey during their holiday, prompting her to inform the authorities.
The court heard that Greaves had engaged in inappropriate conversations with individuals he believed were underage girls, including requesting photos and suggesting intimate encounters. Despite his remorse expressed in a letter to the judge, his actions were deemed serious. Judge Richard Woolfall highlighted the importance of the court order forbidding contact with minors and emphasized its role in safeguarding children. Ultimately, Greaves was sentenced to 10 months in prison for his actions.
