UK Set to See Cooler Temperatures After Scorching Heat

Date:

Advanced weather forecasting models indicate that the ongoing heatwave with temperatures exceeding 30C in many areas may soon transition to cooler conditions. According to Met Office predictions, southern UK regions are likely to maintain temperatures of 30C or higher until at least Friday, while northern areas could see peak temperatures of 28C or more during the same period.

However, forecasts suggest a temperature decrease over the weekend. The ECMWF weather model projects morning temperatures dropping as low as 6C in parts of Scotland on Sunday. In northern England, temperatures may reach 7C on Sunday morning, while the warmest morning temperatures around 15C-16C are anticipated in the south-west.

By midday on Sunday, the ECMWF model forecasts peak temperatures of only 17C in southern England, a significant drop from recent scorching conditions. Wales is expected to reach 15C, with the Midlands and Northern Ireland experiencing 13C temperatures.

Temperature anomaly maps for Sunday reveal that most of the UK, excluding the south-west, will experience temperatures below the seasonal average. The ECMWF model also indicates that certain regions in Scotland and northern England could see temperatures below 10C on Sunday morning.

The Met Office anticipates a gradual temperature decline starting from Saturday as stronger breezes move to northern areas. By Sunday, conditions are expected to be less hot compared to previous days. The Met Office’s forecast for July 19 to July 28 suggests predominantly dry weather across the country, with high pressure systems likely to prevail. Although the air source from the North Atlantic will result in relatively cooler temperatures compared to recent days, any showers are more probable in the far north during the initial period.
