“Ukraine Braces for Intensified Russian Drone Strikes”

Date:

Ukraine is preparing for significant drone and missile strikes from Russia following the Kremlin’s promise to carry out “massive group attacks.” Kharkiv, a Ukrainian city, was hit by guided aerial bombs, resulting in two fatalities and nine injuries in Sumy due to Russian missile strikes.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has issued threats of intensified and larger air strikes on Ukraine in retaliation for Ukraine’s substantial assault on Moscow. The Kremlin expressed outrage over Ukraine’s recent attack on Moscow, which caused widespread damage and air pollution. Over 1,000 drones, including 200 in the capital, targeted Russia, hitting a major oil refinery close to the Kremlin for the second time.

This attack marks the most significant offensive by Ukraine against Moscow during the ongoing conflict. Lavrov emphasized the strategic importance of the strikes on targets affecting Ukraine’s Armed Forces’ combat capability.

As tensions escalate, the UK plans to send 150,000 drones and air defense systems to Ukraine, funded by frozen Russian assets. A £752 million fund was unveiled during a NATO meeting in Brussels to support Ukraine’s defense efforts. The aid package includes Lightweight Multirole Missiles and ground-based radar systems to enhance Ukraine’s air defense against Russia’s ongoing missile and drone attacks.

Ukraine’s strikes on Russia have primarily targeted the fuel industry, leading to severe energy shortages and challenges for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky justified the recent attack as a response to Russian aggression and emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions to end the conflict.

The Institute for the Study of War highlighted the impact of Ukrainian attacks on Russia, noting fuel restrictions and supply shortages to frontline troops in Ukraine. The institute pointed out vulnerabilities in Russian air defenses and the domestic challenges faced by the Kremlin due to the war it initiated.
