Ukraine launched a significant strike on Russia’s Wildberries online retailer, targeting St. Petersburg, which is considered Vladimir Putin’s hometown. During overnight operations, logistics centers owned by Wildberries in St. Petersburg, Tver, and Crimea were struck in coordinated waves of attacks. Witnesses reported seeing thick black smoke rising from several Wildberries facilities, known for supplying drone and military components, as numerous businesses were engulfed in flames.
Reports suggest that Ukraine’s actions are also meant to show Russians that they are not insulated from Putin’s aggression towards their neighbor. In retaliation, the Kremlin launched a ballistic missile strike on a military training ground in the Kyiv region, resulting in ten fatalities and around 100 injuries.
Investigations have been initiated into the attack and the decision to host the defense event within range of Russian ballistic missiles. President Zelensky confirmed the Russian missile strike in the Kyiv region but did not specify if it targeted the arms exhibition.
