“Unredacted Epstein Files Tie Trump to Controversy”

Date:

Donald Trump’s name has been referenced “more than a million times” in the unredacted Jeffrey Epstein files, according to US lawmakers. The claim surfaced as details emerged about a conversation between a Florida police chief and the FBI, where the chief alleged that Trump expressed relief over efforts to stop Epstein’s actions.

Senior Democrat Jamie Raskin spoke out after examining the unreacted files, raising doubts about Trump’s assertion that he ejected the disgraced financier from Mar-a-Lago. The revelations followed the unearthing of a 2019 FBI interview with former Palm Beach police chief Michael Reiter, who led the initial 2005 investigation into Epstein.

In the FBI document, it was reported that Trump informed Reiter of expelling Epstein from his club and expressed gratitude for the intervention. Trump allegedly highlighted Epstein’s reputation in New York, called out Ghislaine Maxwell as Epstein’s accomplice, and distanced himself from Epstein’s activities involving teenagers.

Despite Trump’s repeated claims of cutting ties with Epstein decades ago, the FBI account seems to challenge this narrative. Raskin, after reviewing the unredacted files, criticized the limited access to the information and suggested a potential cover-up. He pointed to an unredacted email contradicting Trump’s version of events at Mar-a-Lago.

A Department of Justice official stated that there is no substantiating evidence of Trump contacting law enforcement two decades ago. Meanwhile, at the White House, press secretary Karoline Leavitt declined to confirm the reported 2006 phone call mentioned in the FBI report.

Reiter, who previously clashed with local prosecutors over the Epstein case, later cooperated with federal authorities on a separate investigation leading to Epstein’s controversial 2008 plea deal. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while in custody awaiting trial on federal charges related to sex trafficking.
