American military forces have conducted airstrikes on Iranian targets for the sixth consecutive night, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuries to 20 others. This brings the total casualties in the recent attacks to nearly 40. The recent strikes by US forces have shifted focus to include civilian infrastructure such as bridges, airports, power facilities, and a train station.
One of the heavily affected targets in the US airstrikes is Iran’s Eagle airbase in southern Iran, designed to safeguard Tehran’s airforce. The airbase has suffered significant damage with bombs penetrating reinforced roofs and causing extensive harm to aircraft. Reports indicate that the US has bolstered its military presence in the region, with approximately 300 warplanes stationed in the Middle East for potential strikes against Iran.
Sources reveal that the total number of US bombs targeting Iran has exceeded 13,000. In retaliation, Iran has launched missiles at US assets in various locations, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar, where a child was injured by falling debris. Tehran has reiterated its stance that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war state, prompting the US to intensify its blockade of ships entering and leaving Iran.
Following the recent airstrikes, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a warning of a “devastating price” for countries hosting US bases if the attacks persist. The IRGC emphasized that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure will result in severe consequences for the aggressors.
In a bid to exert pressure on the US, Iran has targeted Kuwait’s civilian facilities, damaging a power and desalination plant crucial for providing drinking water to the country. Efforts are underway to assess the damage and restore operations at the affected plant. The escalating situation, coupled with US efforts to hasten the conclusion of the conflict, has been compounded by renewed threats from the Yemeni Houthis, an influential Iranian proxy group.
Recent reports suggest that the Houthis have formed an alliance with the Sunni al-Shabab terror group in Somalia, setting aside religious differences to collaborate. Iran has allegedly facilitated the coordination between the Houthis and al-Shabab, encouraging them to block the Bab el-Mandab Strait between Djibouti and Yemen. There are indications that Iranian-backed drone technology has been supplied to the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabab to assist in potential blockades of the strait upon Tehran’s instructions.
