“US Government Introduces Secret ICE Visit Rule”

Date:

The US government quietly implemented a new regulation aimed at safeguarding ICE shortly after an agent fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis. The incident, captured on video, sparked widespread outrage both in the US and globally, with the Trump administration supporting the agent’s actions and labeling Good as a “domestic terrorist.”

While publicly criticizing the victim and protesters, the White House discreetly introduced a significant policy change benefiting ICE. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced a requirement on Thursday mandating lawmakers to provide a week’s notice before visiting ICE facilities, effectively restricting impromptu congressional visits.

This new directive enforces a seven-day advance notification period for visits, preventing sudden or unannounced inspections. The policy adjustment, made just hours after Good’s tragic death, was made public on Saturday, as reported by Politico.

The restriction was disclosed in court following the denial of entry to three House Democrats – Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison – who were unaware of the new rule when attempting to visit an ICE detention center in Minnesota. In response, Omar emphasized the public’s right to transparency regarding ICE facility operations.

A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security accused the Congress members of leading protestors to the center with the intent of confronting ICE officers. The spokesperson clarified that the visit was deemed improper and violated existing court orders and policies requiring a seven-day notice for congressional visits to ICE facilities.

Following the release of bodycam footage providing new details on the shooting incident involving Ross, claims made by Trump and other politicians were called into question. The footage captured Good calmly interacting with the officer before being shot, while Ross was heard using derogatory language after firing his weapon.
