Andrew and Tristan Tate’s attorney has stated their intention to resist being sent back to the UK to deal with accusations of rape and sex trafficking, asserting that the brothers are targets of a “political witch hunt.”
The lawyer, Joe McBride, criticized the UK, claiming it prosecutes its citizens for expressing opinions, labeling it a “fallen state.” He emphasized that the Tates are facing backlash for their words rather than their actions.
McBride highlighted instances such as a woman’s arrest for praying near an abortion clinic and the targeting of activist Tommy Robinson to illustrate his point. He called upon US President Donald Trump to intervene, arguing that Trump was elected to combat such situations.
The Tates, who hold citizenship in both the US and UK, were apprehended by US marshals and are scheduled to appear in court soon after British authorities pressed additional charges against them.
Andrew Tate, aged 39, faces numerous charges, including rape, trafficking, assault, and offenses related to indecent images and extreme pornography. His brother, Tristan Tate, aged 38, is charged with sexual assault, rape, and trafficking arrangements.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) disclosed that the new charges, combined with existing ones, span from July 2010 to August 2017. The brothers have consistently denied any wrongdoing.
McBride affirmed their intention to contest extradition, denouncing the new charges as defamatory and intended to bias the public against the Tates. He stressed the lack of evidence proving their guilt and emphasized their persecution for their speech rather than actions.
The attorney urged US officials, highlighting Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to oppose sending the Tates to the UK, emphasizing their stance against communism and persecution for free speech.
McBride anticipated a legal battle lasting around 60 days, potentially longer depending on developments. He expressed confidence in their defense strategy for the foreseeable future.
