A group of unidentified individuals have surfaced in a video taking matters into their own hands by attacking and allegedly eliminating individuals they believe are associated with a criminal organization.
The violent incident occurred at a financial office in Veracruz, Mexico, resulting in the death of four individuals and injuries to two others. The perpetrators behind the assault have identified themselves as the ‘Cobra Group.’ They forcefully entered a financial company’s offices in Coatzacoalcos and opened fire, causing the fatalities and severe injuries to two women, as per local sources.
Shortly after the attack, a video linked to the Cobra Group was shared online, where they admitted to the attack, claiming the targeted business was involved in extortion. The footage captured the chaos and distress of those present during the assault.
Clad in black tactical gear and masks, the group, allegedly comprised of local business owners, brandished firearms. They asserted their mission to combat organized crime in southern Veracruz, expressing frustration over extortion, abductions, and homicides. The individuals emphasized their resolve to take action if authorities do not intervene.
In their message conveyed through the “Grupo Cobra” account, the masked individuals addressed residents in southern Veracruz, highlighting the pervasive criminal activities affecting businesses, transportation, and citizens in the region.
Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation into the vigilante group, striving to authenticate the video and identify the individuals involved. Despite local reports, the existence of the Cobra Group has not been officially confirmed.
Following the attack, the Veracruz government mobilized a search and rescue operation in the southern region, involving the National Guard, Navy, and State Police. The area was cordoned off for forensic examinations and body retrieval.
As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made, prompting concerns within the community regarding the rise of armed vigilante factions in an already volatile and insecure area.
