Protesters clashed with individuals from the far-right nationalist organization Britain First today in a series of violent altercations, resulting in three arrests and attacks on emergency services.
Throughout the morning and afternoon, a procession of Union Jacks and St George’s Cross flags was paraded through the streets of Manchester by Britain First supporters advocating for “remigration,” a controversial concept advocating for the forced repatriation of ethnic minorities and mass deportations.
Counter protesters from Stand Up To Racism Manchester and the Resist Britain First coalition outnumbered the Britain First marchers, leading to violent confrontations and subsequent arrests.
Images from the scene depict a man in a tracksuit being escorted by police, and multiple protesters clashing with emergency services and law enforcement officers. Additionally, unidentified individuals were seen engaging in physical altercations in Piccadilly Gardens.
Despite the clashes, the march was predominantly peaceful, with large crowds being managed by law enforcement throughout Manchester.
By 12:50 pm, Greater Manchester Police confirmed three arrests for breaching a dispersal order, assaulting an emergency worker, and breaching the peace. One individual was directed to leave the area under the dispersal order.
A significant police presence remained in Manchester city center into the afternoon, supported by police vehicles and mounted officers to control the protesters in accordance with the dispersal order.
The dispersal order, effective for 10 hours, aims to prevent anti-social behavior, crime, harassment, alarm, or distress. Local authorities, including council leader Bev Craig, have condemned Britain First, emphasizing that the city rejects hate and urging counter-protesters to denounce such ideologies.
Photos from the event show multiple police officers in the city center, clashes between protesters and law enforcement, mounted police at the Britain First protest, counter protesters at Piccadilly Gardens, participants in a ‘March for Remigration,’ Britain First members in attendance, and scuffles among individuals in Piccadilly Gardens during the protests.
