A 26-year-old woman was apprehended for reportedly fastening her dog to a metal post at an airport check-in counter and departing. The incident occurred at the JetBlue ticket counter at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada. The woman allegedly abandoned her goldendoodle after being informed by staff that she had not completed the necessary online documentation to travel with the dog as a service animal.
Upon being alerted to the situation, police arrested the woman on suspicion of animal abandonment. The stranded dog is now under the care of Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas and will soon find a permanent, loving home. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement emphasizing the importance of not abandoning pets in any location.
Airport staff notified authorities after discovering the goldendoodle tied to a metal sizer and left behind at the counter. The woman was later found near the gate for her intended flight. She claimed that the airline had refused to allow her to fly with the dog and believed it was acceptable to leave it behind due to a tracking device it supposedly possessed. Subsequently, she resisted arrest when being escorted back through security.
The woman was detained for both animal abandonment and resisting arrest.
