A woman has been taken into custody as part of the inquiry into the alleged killing of a six-year-old boy.
Young Kyran Durnin, who was last spotted alive in June 2022 at the age of six, was officially declared missing towards the conclusion of August 2024.
Subsequently, a woman has been apprehended by authorities investigating his vanishing following the escalation of the missing person case to a homicide investigation.
Additionally, a search is currently ongoing at a residence in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, with Gardai confirming that a woman in her fifties is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the eastern part of the region.
The arrest occurred less than a fortnight after Kyran would have marked his tenth birthday, as reported by The Irish Mirror.
A spokesperson for Gardai stated: “Gardaí have detained a woman today, Monday 25th May 2026, in connection with the investigation into the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin (6 years).
“A search under warrant is in progress at a private residence in Drogheda, Co. Louth, this morning.
“The woman, aged in her 50s, is presently in custody under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
