“Woman sentenced to life for boyfriend’s murder”

Date:

A woman who fatally assaulted her boyfriend was observed leaving a hotel room where he was left unattended. Polly Murphy, residing in Highgate, was captured on CCTV exiting the Smugglers Cove hotel in Clacton after the violent incident. Emergency services were not summoned until 18 hours later, with initial assumptions suggesting a minor injury.

Upon medical examination, it was revealed that the victim, James Self, had sustained severe injuries over a prolonged period, leading to his tragic demise in the hospital after six weeks. Murphy was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 15 years.

During police questioning, Murphy maintained a stoic demeanor, declining to provide any comments regarding the incident. The court detailed a history of escalating violence, citing instances of physical abuse and threatening behavior towards the victim.

Detective Anthony Kopf commended the collaborative efforts that led to Murphy’s conviction, emphasizing the importance of seeking help in cases of domestic abuse. Essex Police urged individuals facing similar situations to come forward without hesitation.

In a heartfelt statement, James’ mother expressed profound grief over the loss of her son and condemned the inhumane actions that led to his untimely death. She thanked those who supported James and sought justice on his behalf.
