“12 Arrested in Leicester Murder Probe”

Police have initiated a search operation at a property in Broad Avenue, Evington, Leicester, as part of a murder investigation, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals. The authorities have described the ongoing activity as “significant” and anticipate it to continue for several days and weeks. The operation is linked to the suspected murder of a man in his 60s who has been missing since April 2024.

Leicestershire Police have disclosed that two other addresses in Evington, specifically in Gwendolen Road and Falmouth Road, are also under investigation in connection with the case. The search at the Broad Avenue property involves excavation of the ground.

Authorities have apprehended eight men, aged between 21 and 61, and three women, aged between 23 and 34, on suspicion of murder. Additionally, a 50-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of aiding an offender. All the arrested individuals are currently in police custody.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police announced the arrest of 12 individuals in relation to the disappearance of the man. The force’s Murder Investigation Team conducted the arrests following an extensive inquiry into the case. According to detectives, the man was last seen in April 2024, and there has been no evidence of his whereabouts since then.

DI Michael Chandler of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, leading the investigation, confirmed a comprehensive search at the Broad Avenue address involving specialized officers and construction equipment. The excavation at the property forms a crucial part of the investigation, and the public is encouraged to provide any relevant information to assist the ongoing inquiry.

DI Chandler emphasized the complexity of the investigation and assured the public of continuous updates on the progress. He urged individuals with information to come forward and discouraged the spread of unverified information. The police will continue to provide updates as necessary.
