A Minneapolis nurse participating in immigration protests was fatally shot by ICE agents, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed. Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, was killed during demonstrations against increased immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. The medical examiner’s report stated that Pretti died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide, specifying that he was shot by law enforcement officers. The report ruled out any other contributing factors to his death.
The shooting, which took place on January 24, occurred during a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, according to DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin. However, video footage of the incident contradicts the agency’s account, showing Pretti peacefully standing among protesters with his hands visible before being pinned down by agents.
Witnesses reported that Pretti was attempting to assist a woman who had been pepper-sprayed by agents just before his death. Described as a caring individual deeply concerned about ICE’s actions, Pretti had no criminal record and had never been in trouble with the law beyond minor traffic violations. His family emphasized his compassionate nature and dedication to advocating for others through peaceful protest.
