A tragic incident involving a gas cylinder explosion has resulted in the loss of at least eight lives during a wedding reception in Pakistan, where the newlywed couple was among the casualties.
The event was being held at a residence in Islamabad, the capital, on Sunday, leading to a collapse of part of the building due to the explosion. Authorities reported that seven individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
The explosion took place in a residential neighborhood in the central area of the city, prompting a thorough investigation by the police to determine the cause.
Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf confirmed the completion of the rescue operation, ensuring no one was left trapped under the debris. Canine units were deployed during the search and rescue efforts to locate and retrieve all victims.
Yousaf stated, “Three houses were completely destroyed, while a fourth sustained partial damage. Inspections of neighboring structures are underway to mitigate any further risks.”
In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow for the lives lost and extended condolences to the affected families. He instructed the healthcare authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the injured and called for a thorough investigation. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also offered his sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.
