Elon Musk is scheduled to deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos today, according to an announcement made by the event organizers. The session will feature a dialogue between Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Chief Engineer at SpaceX, and Laurence D. Fink, the Chair and CEO of BlackRock, who also serves as an Interim Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum.
This appearance comes in the aftermath of a public dispute between Musk and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary. The disagreement stemmed from a dispute over the implementation of Musk’s Starlink internet service on Ryanair aircraft, prompting Musk to jokingly suggest on his social media platform X that he should acquire Ryanair and become its “rightful ruler.”
The clash between Musk and O’Leary escalated, with the budget airline executive previously referring to Musk as “an idiot” amid discussions about the Starlink satellite internet system. O’Leary criticized social media platforms, labeling them as “a cesspit,” and specifically condemned TikTok as “the greatest amount of rubbish.” He urged governments to eliminate anonymity on social media, citing various issues like nude content, child exploitation, and suicide-related content.
Expressing his disapproval of anonymous online behavior, O’Leary called for stricter regulation in Europe to address these concerns. He clarified that he does not engage on Musk’s platform X and has no direct communication with Musk, emphasizing that Ryanair is prepared to respond to any exchanges on the platform.
Musk’s appearance at Davos today follows a recent speech by US President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum. During his address, Trump made remarks that appeared to confuse Greenland and Iceland, claiming that European nations had referred to him as “Daddy.” He asserted the strategic importance of Greenland for national and international security, stating that the US is uniquely positioned to safeguard the region.
Despite expressing interest in negotiating the acquisition of Greenland, Trump emphasized a non-military approach, affirming that he seeks a peaceful resolution without resorting to force.
