Four individuals sustained injuries in a violent stabbing incident near a major train station, as confirmed by law enforcement officials who apprehended a young suspect. First responders hurried to the location at Silver Spring Metro station close to Washington DC following reports of a large altercation, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service chief spokesperson Pete Piringer.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) spokesperson verified that officers were summoned to the scene around 6pm local time. Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered multiple youths with stab wounds. Medical personnel treated three patients on-site and subsequently transported them to a hospital for further care, while a fourth individual declined medical transport after receiving treatment.
In a press release, a police representative disclosed that officers were dispatched to address a “significant brawl” unfolding outside the train station. The spokesperson stated, “MCPD responded to reports of a violent altercation in progress involving over 20 juveniles. Three juvenile victims sustained stab wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another victim suffered injuries but was not stabbed during the incident and opted out of medical transportation.”
The spokesperson further mentioned, “A juvenile suspect was apprehended and charged. The investigation is actively ongoing.” Metro Transit Police clarified that the altercation occurred outside their jurisdiction and did not disrupt train services. Authorities are actively investigating the mass fight and stabbing incident.
