“Crane and Train Collision Injures Six in Spain”

Date:

A crane arm collided with a train carrying over a dozen passengers in Alumbres, near Murcia, Spain, causing minor injuries to six individuals. This incident occurred shortly after a recent series of train accidents in Spain, including a fatal collision in Adamuz, Cordoba, where 43 people lost their lives. Following these tragedies, Spain’s primary train operators’ union declared a three-day strike to demand improved railway safety measures.

The collision near Los Partidarios involved the train striking an elevated work platform belonging to an electricity company, leading to minor injuries and window breakage. Emergency responders swiftly evacuated passengers to safety and treated the injured individuals. Among the injured were two 18-year-old males, a 62-year-old woman, a 74-year-old woman, and two individuals aged 26 and 50.

Adif, the Spanish rail operator, halted traffic on the affected line due to the crane’s intrusion into the railway infrastructure. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported among the 16 passengers onboard during the collision. Emergency services, including police and firefighters, responded promptly to the scene, where it was confirmed that the train remained upright and on the tracks.

The collision occurred at midday near Cartagena, with no derailment reported. This incident follows a string of recent rail accidents in Spain, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures within the railway system.
