“South Carolina State University Campus on Lockdown After Fatal Shooting”

Date:

South Carolina State University students were instructed to stay indoors as the campus went into a “lockdown” following reports of a shooting. The alert was issued on the evening of Thursday, February 12. Reports from a local news source indicated that two individuals lost their lives, and one person sustained injuries, although law enforcement has not disclosed information about a potential suspect.

This incident marks the third shooting within five months on the university grounds. In October, two separate shootings occurred, one of which happened at the same student housing complex where Thursday’s shooting took place.

University officials have requested the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to investigate the tragic event that unfolded on campus. The shooting occurred at the Hugine Suites student residential complex, prompting the campus lockdown. Law enforcement agencies, including SLED, are actively investigating the situation.

As of now, the identities of the victims and the condition of the injured individual have not been confirmed by the university. The campus remains on lockdown, with the university’s Department of Public Safety receiving support from the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office for campus security.

In response to the incident, classes scheduled for Friday have been canceled, and counseling services are being offered to students. The campus community is urged to remain vigilant until further updates are provided.

Reports suggest that the shooting took place in an apartment within the Hugine Suites student residential complex. Following the tragic event, classes at South Carolina State University were called off for the following day.

Local news outlets have confirmed that two fatalities and one injury resulted from the shooting incident at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. Further details about the incident are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
