A female inmate who shared a prison cell with Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker, has revealed details about Maxwell’s behavior in the women’s prison where she is serving a 20-year sentence. Maxwell, the former British socialite and girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, is serving time in a US federal prison for child sex trafficking and other charges related to child abuse conspiracy.
According to the inmate who was once Maxwell’s cellmate at FCI Tallahassee in Florida between 2023 and 2025, Maxwell had poor personal hygiene and would only shower once or twice a week. The inmate mentioned that Maxwell was avoided by most prisoners who referred to her as a “Chomo,” a prison slang term for a child molester. Maxwell spent a significant amount of time working out, exacerbating her issue with body odor.
Despite her criminal convictions, no physical attacks were reported against Maxwell at the low-security prison as inmates feared being sent to solitary confinement. The inmate explained that “the hole,” a special unit where inmates are isolated 24 hours a day and served cold meals, was a harsh living condition that inmates avoided due to its difficulty.
Maxwell was later transferred from the Florida prison to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, a facility known for housing non-violent, white-collar offenders. Reports surfaced that Maxwell received special treatment at Camp Bryan, including personalized meals, a private visiting area, and additional perks like snacks and refreshments. It was also revealed that Maxwell had privileges such as being escorted by guards for private workouts and late-night showers.
Allegations emerged that Maxwell’s visitors were permitted to bring laptops into the facility, allowing her to communicate via email with friends. A Democratic representative disclosed that Maxwell expressed contentment with the new facility, describing it as well-managed and safe compared to her previous prison experience.
Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, defended her transfer to a safer facility, emphasizing the importance of safety given the dangers she faced at her previous location. Markus highlighted that despite the improvements, prison remains a challenging environment, and efforts to provide humane conditions should not be misconstrued as scandalous.
