A 22-year-old man’s plan to eliminate his family was foiled by police who staged a fake murder scene with his parents pretending to be dead.
Authorities in Russia recently uncovered the suspect’s plot to hire a hitman to get rid of his wealthy parents and young sister in order to inherit their assets. Detectives set up a scenario in the family home where the parents acted out their own deaths.
The police then shared staged photos of the crime scene with the son, who was unaware of the elaborate ruse. An officer posed as the hired assassin in Sochi, a city hosting the FIFA World Cup, and the son provided detailed instructions on how he wanted his family eliminated.
The son even provided a floor plan indicating security camera locations and how to avoid guard dogs, negotiating a price with the undercover officer for the murders and requesting to see images of his deceased parents. The parents cooperated in the police operation, appearing lifeless in the mock crime scene photos.
The fake hitman arranged a meeting with the son, showing him the pictures of his “slain parents.” No images were released of the sister, leaving her involvement unclear. The son, pleased with the staged photos, agreed to pay £38,000 to the supposed hitman once he received his inheritance.
However, armed officers swiftly arrested the son after he viewed the photos. He confessed to authorities in the Krasnodar region, admitting to previous attempts to harm his family.
A police source revealed that the son’s motive stemmed from his parents not providing him money, leading him to seek ways to eliminate them. Previous attempts involved poisoning schemes which were thwarted by his father. The young man expressed his frustration during questioning, stating his long-standing plan to hire a hitman due to his family not understanding him.
The father, who holds a prominent role in a educational institution in Sochi, and the family’s substantial assets would have been inherited by the son. If convicted of orchestrating the contract killings, the man could face up to 15 years in prison.
The parents, shocked by their son’s actions, expressed disbelief at his involvement in such a scheme.
