A man seeking medical attention at an emergency room in Rangueil Hospital, Toulouse, caused a stir when it was discovered that he had a World War I shell lodged in his rectum. The incident unfolded on a Saturday night, with the patient, reportedly a 24-year-old individual, complaining of intense discomfort in his lower body.
Upon arrival, the man informed healthcare providers that he had inserted an unidentified object into his rectum. Subsequently, during the extraction process, it was revealed that the object was a 16-centimeter long, 4-centimeter wide shell from the First World War, according to information from French police sources.
The hospital staff promptly alerted the authorities, prompting the arrival of police and the bomb squad at approximately 1:40 am. A security perimeter was established as a precaution, requiring staff and patients to vacate the area while the explosive specialists inspected the shell.
Following a thorough examination, experts confirmed that the artillery shell was a decommissioned relic from the end of the First World War and posed no immediate threat. The exact origins of the shell remain a mystery, as per reports from French news sources.
The patient remains under observation at the hospital, while the Toulouse prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this unusual occurrence.
