“UK Braces for Heavy Snow: 72cm Forecasted”

Date:

A significant portion of the UK, spanning 90 counties, may soon experience heavy snowfall reaching depths of up to 72cm, as indicated by the latest weather maps. These forecasts suggest an imminent spell of freezing weather accompanied by snow within the next two weeks. Meteorologists at WXCharts have made this frosty prediction, revealing that almost all counties, except for two, could be blanketed in snow between January 31 and February 1.

The weather models indicate an escalation of snowfall on January 31, with the flurries gradually moving southwards into most parts of the UK by the early hours of February 1. Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the snowstorm, with the Cairngorms National Park projected to receive a substantial 72cm snow accumulation at the peak of the weather event.

Northern Ireland and Wales are also poised to experience severe wintry conditions, with only Hampshire and Cornwall escaping the widespread snowfall depicted on the maps. Cities in Scotland like Aberdeen and Dundee could see over a foot of snow, while further south, Newcastle might witness up to 25cm of snow accumulation.

Capital cities across the UK, including Belfast and Cardiff, are anticipated to be significantly impacted, with London expected to have around 2cm of settled snow, according to reports by the Express. The snowy conditions will coincide with freezing temperatures nationwide, with most regions waking up to sub-zero temperatures on the morning of January 31.

In some areas, temperatures could drop as low as -6C. The Met Office’s extended forecast for January 23 to February 1 also suggests the likelihood of snowfall and icy conditions. The Met Office highlighted the complexities of predicting snow beyond a few days in advance, citing various factors such as elevation, proximity to the coast, and precipitation intensity that influence whether rain or snow will fall.
