A schoolgirl was left distressed and screaming after she came across a man’s body during a physical education class at Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton. The 11-year-old pupil made the discovery on the playing fields around 10 am today.
The father of the girl expressed his concern, stating that his daughter called her mother in a panic, describing finding the deceased individual near the goal posts on the field. He mentioned that the foggy morning added to the unsettling experience for the young girl.
The incident deeply affected the girl, prompting her family to take her out of school early due to the trauma she experienced. A parent on Facebook mentioned that the class of the girl’s nephew was the first to discover the body and that the school has offered counseling services for those affected.
The school confirmed that only the girl and her fellow year seven classmates had PE that day, and no other students had been on the field prior to the discovery of the body. Following police advice, the school closed temporarily but is set to reopen the next day. Students in need of support are encouraged to contact their head of year for specialized assistance.
Authorities are currently working to identify the man and determine the circumstances surrounding his death. West Midlands Police informed the academy that the closure was due to an incident unrelated to the school, and investigations are ongoing.
