In a shocking and heinous act that stunned the nation, Andre Thomas brutally murdered his ex-wife, Laura Boren, and her two young children. Thomas claimed the crime was commanded by a divine force.
The horrifying incident unfolded in March 2004 when Thomas forcibly entered Boren’s apartment, fatally stabbing her and removing her heart. Tragically, he then subjected Boren’s children to the same gruesome violence before harming himself.
Following the brutal spree, Thomas calmly surrendered himself at the local police station, stating he was instructed by a divine power to ‘destroy demons.’ To evade prosecution, he resorted to gouging out his own eyes, as legal representatives later explained.
During his time in a Texas jail awaiting trial, Thomas self-inflicted the removal of his right eye, citing a biblical reference. Despite being diagnosed with schizophrenia and pleading insanity, a jury found him guilty and sentenced him to death.
While incarcerated, Thomas proceeded to remove his remaining eye and consumed it, allegedly to prevent the government from monitoring his thoughts. He was eventually moved to a secure psychiatric unit within the Texas prison system, but his death sentence remained unchanged.
The case sparked a debate on executing mentally ill inmates, with Thomas’s legal team arguing his incompetence for execution due to a lack of rational understanding. His scheduled execution in 2023 was postponed for further mental health evaluations.
Currently residing on death row in a specialized facility for inmates with severe psychiatric conditions, Thomas remains blind and under close supervision.
