Prince Harry is not expected to meet King Charles during his upcoming trip to the United States in April. A source close to the Duke of Sussex confirmed that Harry will not be traveling to Washington DC, where Charles is set to be hosted by President Trump.
The announcement of the King’s visit to the US was confirmed by Buckingham Palace after much speculation. The royal couple, Charles and Camilla, will visit the US next month following government advice and the president’s invitation. The visit is scheduled for the last week of April, with Charles also planning to visit Bermuda alone after his US trip.
During their time in America, the King and Queen will participate in events to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, including a state dinner at the White House and an address to Congress. Specific dates and arrangements for these events are yet to be revealed.
Buckingham Palace stated, “The King and Queen will embark on a State Visit to the United States of America to celebrate the historic ties and modern relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, honoring the 250th anniversary of American Independence. Following the US visit, the King will proceed to Bermuda for his first Royal Visit as Monarch to a British Overseas Territory.”
It is anticipated that Charles and Camilla’s visit will be brief, focusing on the East Coast with engagements in Washington DC and New York. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with their children, reside in California on the West Coast, making it difficult for a meeting between Harry and his father during this trip.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond expressed that Charles’ packed schedule would likely prevent a meeting with Harry. She highlighted the official nature of state visits and the limited time available for personal engagements.
This visit will mark the King’s first trip to the US as monarch and the first state visit by a British sovereign to America in nearly two decades. US President Donald Trump expressed enthusiasm for the occasion, emphasizing its significance as the country celebrates its 250th anniversary.
