A stray bullet fired by a man on a moped at a group of people in Brooklyn tragically resulted in the death of a 7-month-old baby in a stroller on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. when two men on a moped shot at a street corner where adults and children were gathered. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported from the shooting.
Following the shooting, the moped crashed into an oncoming car two blocks away, ejecting both men from the vehicle. One of the men sustained injuries and was taken into custody at a hospital for an unrelated investigation, while the other man fled and was being sought by the police.
Authorities indicated that the shooting was likely gang-related, with the child being an unintended victim. Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed condolences, acknowledging the profound loss experienced by the family. Police utilized neighborhood security cameras to trace the moped’s route post the incident, with Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch decrying the tragic event as shocking and heartbreaking.
