Reform UK’s policy leader, James Orr, is facing criticism for his participation in a conference alongside a white nationalist figure. Investigations by DeSmog and the Daily Mirror revealed that Dr. Orr shared a platform at CPAC Hungary with Martin Helme, the head of Estonia’s far-right Conservative People’s Party.
Helme, known for his controversial statements, expressed anti-immigration sentiments, including advocating for sending immigrants back to alter countries positively. Dr. Orr, a prominent figure associated with US Vice President JD Vance, emphasized Reform’s stance on halting mass migration and considering ways to reverse it.
Reform’s platform includes plans to deport all “illegal” migrants and restrict the rights of legally settled individuals in the UK by preventing indefinite stay. Dr. Orr’s appearance at CPAC Hungary has raised concerns within Reform, particularly for leader Nigel Farage, who has faced previous allegations of racist behavior.
Critics, including Nick Dearden of Global Justice Now and Labour MP Clive Lewis, have condemned Reform’s approach, labeling it as divisive and promoting hatred. The conference also featured far-right influencers advocating for mass deportations and restrictive immigration policies in Europe.
Notably, the event provided a platform for supporters of Donald Trump and Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán, who is seeking re-election. Trump, in a video message, praised Orbán and expressed support for his electoral success. Orbán’s tenure has been marked by controversial actions, including constitutional amendments, media control, and crackdowns on various rights.
Despite requests for comments, Dr. Orr and Reform remained silent on the matter. Helme dismissed the allegations against him as exaggerated but refrained from further statements.
