Weather forecasters have issued yellow and amber weather alerts for heavy rain in Wales and southern England. People are advised to be prepared for travel disruptions and potential flooding.

The Met Office warning, effective from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning, cautions about Storm Chandra bringing heavy rainfall to the already soaked ground. This increases the risk of localized flooding, potentially affecting homes, businesses, and roads in various regions.

Following this, rain is expected to persist in eastern England on Tuesday, with forecasted rainfall totals ranging from 20-30mm, reaching up to 50mm or more in hilly areas like Dartmoor and Exmoor. The public is urged to watch out for slippery road conditions, possible power outages, longer travel times, and difficult walking conditions in exposed areas.

To mitigate risks, the Met Office recommends checking road conditions, adjusting travel plans if possible, and preparing for potential floods, especially in flood-prone areas. An amber warning for rain has also been issued for South West England, emphasizing the likelihood of fast-flowing floodwaters and potential community isolation due to flooded roads.

Areas under the amber warning, including Bournemouth, Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset, are at risk of power cuts and possible landslides. The Met Office provides safety advice for floods, advising individuals to seek higher ground in flooded buildings, avoid attic spaces, and call emergency services for help.
