The portrayal of Jobcentre staff in the film drew criticism from then Tory minister Iain Duncan Smith and Tory business secretary Greg Clark, who labeled it as unfair and fictional.
The rise of food banks in the UK has been significant, with the first one established in 2000 and 2,800 in operation by 2014. Following a change in government in 2010, the number of food banks surged. Labour, upon assuming power in 2024, pledged to reduce reliance on food banks through initiatives like the “New Deal” to enhance wages and crisis support services, aiming to eliminate the need for food banks by 2030.
