Ex-Prime Minister Hospitalized Amid Epstein Allegations

Date:

A former Prime Minister mentioned in the Epstein Files has been hospitalized following an alleged suicide attempt. Thorbjørn Jagland, the ex-Norwegian Prime Minister, was admitted to the hospital on February 24, shortly after facing serious corruption charges related to his ties with convicted pedophile Epstein.

Jagland was accused of “gross corruption” based on newly disclosed documents that suggested a transactional connection between him and Epstein from 2011 to 2018. While reports in Norway hinted at a suicide bid, Jagland’s legal team clarified that he was hospitalized due to severe stress, not a deliberate self-harm incident.

The released documents from the Epstein Files indicated requests from Jagland to Epstein for diplomatic favors, luxurious trips, and financial assistance. Norwegian authorities initiated an inquiry into the alleged corruption involving the former leader, who admitted to exercising “poor judgment.”

Contrary to claims by some Norwegian media outlets, including iNyheter, Jagland’s lawyer denied any suicide attempt, emphasizing that his client’s hospitalization was due to extreme stress induced by the ongoing legal scrutiny and media attention. Jagland, who served as Prime Minister from 1996 to 1997 and chaired the Nobel Committee from 2009 to 2015, emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the investigation while denying any criminal responsibility.

Jagland’s immunity from the Council of Europe, which he led from 2009 to 2018, was revoked, leading to the corruption charge against him. Additional details from the Epstein files suggested that Jagland had planned a family trip to Epstein’s private island in 2014, which was canceled due to Epstein’s illness. Another instance revealed Jagland’s involvement in assisting Epstein with a bank loan, though the outcome remains unclear, as per Norwegian news source NRK.

Notably, the police in Norway have not confirmed whether they are probing these allegations. It is important to note that being mentioned in the Epstein Files does not imply guilt or wrongdoing. Jagland is not the only prominent Norwegian figure linked to the files, as Crown Princess Mette-Marit issued a public apology for her association with Epstein following the release of emails between them.
