“Burglars Sentenced to 56 Months for Targeting Footballer”

Date:

Two burglars have been sentenced to 56 months in prison each after carrying out a series of frightening burglaries targeting a footballer and a family. Denis Puka, 28, and Erisjan Laska, 29, were behind the spree, which involved breaking into seven properties. Among their targets was League Two striker Scott Hogan, who woke up to find a flashlight shining in his face during one of the break-ins.

The criminals, along with an unidentified accomplice, traveled from outside the area to Warrington where they booked an Airbnb as a base for their criminal activities. They used a fake number plate on a Seat Leon and equipped themselves with masks, tools, and walkie-talkies to coordinate the burglaries in Cheshire.

During the raids on June 5-7, the burglars attempted break-ins at several properties, including Scott Hogan’s home in Northwich. Although nothing was stolen, the incident prompted Hogan to install a new security system due to the stress and anxiety caused to his family. The burglars also targeted homes in Blackpool, Grappenhall, Knutsford, and Northwich, managing to steal valuable watches from one property.

The men were arrested after their vehicle was found with incriminating evidence inside, such as mobile phones, clothing worn during the burglaries, and tools. In sentencing, Judge Steven Everett emphasized the sophistication of the operation and the impact on the victims, particularly Scott Hogan, whose family endured great distress. Laska, who minimized his offenses, was criticized by the judge for not taking responsibility for his actions, while Puka, with no prior convictions, was described as coming from a respectable background.

Following the sentencing, Cheshire Police Constable Simon Gibson commended the police’s dedication in bringing the burglars to justice, highlighting the strong evidence that led to their guilty pleas and convictions.
