To celebrate my birthday weekend, I embarked on my first-ever trip to London, and the entire experience felt truly extraordinary. Attending the performance of Wicked elevated the trip to unforgettable heights, leaving a lasting impression on me.
Wicked, a captivating production, made its debut at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway in 2003 and continues to enchant audiences over two decades later. In London’s West End, the show, running since 2006, has secured its place as the ninth longest-running production in the history of West End theatre.
The performance completely exceeded my expectations, captivating me from beginning to end. The talented cast delivered an exceptional show, showcasing outstanding vocals and choreography that were truly remarkable.

Charlotte Anne Steen’s portrayal of Elphaba was outstanding, her powerful voice evoking deep emotions and moving the audience to tears. Her rendition of iconic songs like “Defying Gravity” and “No Good Deed” was truly captivating and personal.
Her portrayal of Elphaba’s complex emotions and humor was impeccable, highlighted by her remarkable vocal range and signature wicked laugh.
Glinda, played by Lydia Gerrard, also left a lasting impact with her portrayal of the character’s sharp wit and comedic timing. The evolving relationship between Glinda and Elphaba, transitioning from initial discord to a heartfelt bond, was particularly moving.
Fiyero, portrayed by Jacob Young, impressed with his strong vocals, especially during his performance of “As Long As You’re Mine,” leaving a lasting impression on the audience. The entire cast delivered a flawless performance, showcasing their exceptional talents.
The production’s attention to detail extended to the intricate costumes and set designs, creating a visually stunning and immersive experience for the audience. The choreography and special effects, including the lifelike portrayal of monkeys, added an extra layer of authenticity to the performance.
While the performers rightfully receive praise, the behind-the-scenes team, from costume designers to stage crew, deserve recognition for their exceptional work in bringing the production to life. The set designs, particularly the impressive mechanical face of the Wizard, added a magical touch to the show.
As the show concluded with “No One Mourns the Wicked” and the emotional parting of Elphaba and Glinda, tears welled up in my eyes. This first theatrical experience has set a high standard that will be hard to top.
