The Government is working on arranging rescue flights out of Oman and Abu Dhabi in the Gulf region, but significant constraints exist because of the ongoing conflict.
David Mumford, an expert in international operations with Opsgroup, mentioned that flights are being redirected as a corridor over the Gulf is effectively shut down. This situation is resulting in longer flight durations and increased fuel consumption.
Three Irish teachers, Damian Lafferty, Emily Clifford, and Rachel Carimes, opted to take a 12-hour bus journey from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, Oman, to catch a flight back home. Damian shared that their school initially implemented Covid restrictions with online classes before announcing a break. He explained their decision to leave despite witnessing missile activities due to safety concerns.
