The United Kingdom is preparing for a period of intense cold weather, with forecasts indicating that snowfall will cover the country soon. Previous snowfall has already covered significant areas of Britain at the beginning of 2026.
According to weather maps from WXCHARTS, snow is expected to fall from Friday, 13 February, until Tuesday, 17 February. Projections suggest the snowfall will commence on Friday, with Scotland potentially experiencing up to 51 inches.
By 6am, snowfall rates could reach up to 20mm per hour, impacting north Wales, the Midlands, and the East of England. On Sunday, 15 February, a cold front is predicted to move across the UK.
Temperatures are expected to range between 0C and -3C across the country, with the southernmost part of Cornwall experiencing slightly warmer conditions around 8C.
Valentine’s Day may see a temporary break in the weather, but some rain and snow are still anticipated, particularly in Scotland and Wales. By midnight on Monday, 16 February, large areas of the country are expected to be covered in snow.
The maps show most of the UK covered in purple, indicating snowfall from the Scottish Highlands down to Plymouth, with few areas escaping the snow.
On Tuesday, 17 February, the snow is forecasted to reach as far south as the Midlands, while the south of England may experience drier conditions. However, the Met Office warns that predicting snowfall is notoriously challenging.
The Met Office forecast suggests that cyclonic patterns will dominate the UK, with the possibility of colder conditions and snow in some regions. Unsettled weather with rain and strong winds may persist, with varying temperatures across different parts of the country.
