A 14-year-old teenager was apprehended after a knife-related incident occurred at a secondary school. The adolescent was subdued by school staff at Haute Vallée secondary school in Jersey until police intervened. The occurrence, taking place during lunch at the school cafeteria today, resulted in a minor hand injury for one student.
In a communication to parents on Facebook, Headteacher Stuart Hughes disclosed the gravity of the incident at Haute Vallée School. He confirmed the involvement of the 14-year-old in a knife incident at the cafeteria, commending the swift and effective actions of the staff in restraining the teenager until the authorities arrived. The teenager has been taken into custody, with assurance given that all individuals are safe, except for the minor hand injury sustained by one student.
Hughes mentioned that the police are reviewing CCTV footage, and special support has been provided to Year 7 students to allay any concerns. He further stated the collaborative efforts with the Jersey Police to ensure the well-being of students and staff and acknowledged the professional response of the school community during the incident.
The Headteacher expressed his pride in the school community’s calm and supportive behavior and assured ongoing support for both students and staff.
